Covid-19 Delta outbreak: Judge’s son William Willis, lawyer Hannah Rawnsley sentenced for flouting Auckland lockdown to holiday in Wānaka.
The couple who garnered widespread attention in the first weeks of the Delta outbreak after they left Auckland’s strict Covid-19 lockdown for a holiday home in Wānaka pleaded guilty today and were sentenced.
Equestrian William Willis was convicted and ordered to pay a fine of $750.
Judge Bruce Davidson approved lawyer Hannah Rawnsley’s application for a discharge without conviction.
He ordered her to pay $500 to a recognised charity working with vulnerable people within 14 days.
“I simply fail to see how courts can be in the business of destroying employment prospects,” the judge said, referring to a shortage of family law lawyers in New Zealand.
. . .
Prosecutor Natalie Walker argued during the hearing that the couple’s actions were carefully planned, with the first ticket booked within hours of an announcement that Auckland would stay in lockdown but the rest of New Zealand would move to alert level 2.
See:
The Wanakers are coming to town
You better watch out
You better comply
You better not doubt
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is googling you now
He’s making a list
He’s checking it twice
He’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice
Santa Claus is googling you now
He sees you when you’re trending
Or you’re bad in cyberspace
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake
You better watch out
You better comply
You better not doubt
I’m telling you why
‘Cause Santa Claus is googling you now
Oh, let’s go
He sees you when you’re trending
Or you’re bad in cyberspace
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake
You better watch out
You better comply
You better not doubt
I’m telling you why
The Wanakers are coming to town
You better watch out
You better comply
You better not doubt
I’m telling you why
The Wanakers are coming to town
